La troupe est créée en 1928 par Ethel Meglin, une Ziegfeld girl ayant joué dans plusieurs longs métrages. Mack Sennett, l'acteur roi du slapstick et directeur des Keystone Studios, a favorisé la formation de la troupe. Sennett donated a Meglin Kiddie studio building sign and assisted in securing an operations location on his lot. The Johnny Grant Building at 7018-7024 Hollywood Blvd once housed the Meglin Dance Studio on its second floor. One of the most successful child stars of all time, Shirley Temple, was once a Meglin Kiddie dancer.
Bené began her dance training in Los Angeles with the Ethel Meglin Dance Studio. In 1948 she was accepted into the San Francisco Ballet School under the direction of Harold Christensen and his faculty Willam and Lew Christensen, Ruby Asquith, Gisella Caccialanza, Mattlyn Gavers and Anatol Joukowsky.
Meglin Kiddies: June Preston was also one of the prestigious Meglin Kiddies. She joined in 1934 and was a favorite of Neil Albright, Manager/Owner of the Meglin Dance Studio in Beverly Hills and Santa Monica who signed Preston on and said, "She is expected to develop her into a brilliant child star, under The Meglin artistic training."
Frances Ethel Gumm aka Judy Garland at age 5 (?) in 1927 was a student of Ethel Meglin's Kiddie Dance Studio for a few years before she would become famous about a decade later with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios. She was also one of The Gumm Sisters with her older sisters Jimmie and Janie Gumm. Dorothy Gray and Judy Garland were best friends.
