From Richmond, Shields was interned first at Knutsford, Kent and then sent on to Frongoch in Wales. Shield’s was released as part of the first general amnesty in August 1916, and by October he was back on the stage in the Abbey. It was in 1917 that Arthur Shield’s brother first began to gain attention in the acting world.
