Francis Hillman “Scrapper” Blackwell was an American blues guitarist and singer. Best known as half of the guitar-piano duo he formed with Leroy Carr in the late 1920s and early 1930s, he was an acoustic, single-note picker in the Chicago blues and Piedmont blues styles, with some critics noting that he veered towards jazz.

Scrapper Blackwell. American blues guitarist and singer, born February 21, 1903 in Syracuse, North Carolina, died October 7, 1962 in Indianapolis, Indiana (shot to death in a back alley). Played on the majority of Leroy Carr 's records 1928-1935, but also made recordings of his own during the same years.
