Fitzalan was the eldest son of Edmund FitzAlan, 9th Earl of Arundel, and Alice Warenne. His maternal grandparents were William de Warenne and Joan de Vere. William was the only son of John de Warenne, 7th Earl of Surrey.

On this date in 1326, Edmund FitzAlan, Earl of Arundel was beheaded at Hereford for his support of King Edward II, during the rebellion of Queen Isabella and her lover Roger Mortimer. Arundel’s relationship with doomed king had not always been so fatally chummy.
