1 de jun. de 2022 · Arthur Bell Nicholls was born at Killead, Country Antrim, Northern Ireland, on 6 January 1819. His parents were William Nicholls, a Presbyterian farmer, and Margaret Bell Nicholls, an Anglican. As one of ten children, he was assisted by his uncle, Reverend Allan Bell, who took him in.
In 1854 Charlotte, his surviving daughter, married Arthur Bell Nicholls, then curate of Haworth, and there lies another story. Arthur Bell Nicholls was, according to the inscription on his headstone in Banagher churchyard, born in 1818, though other sources give the date as 1819. It was in that year, however, that Arthur Bell Nicholls proposed to her. Nicholls was, like Charlotte’s father, an Irish priest in the Church of England, and he’d served Patrick as assistant curate since May 1845.
