Neil Simon (1927-2018), stammte aus dem jüdischen Viertel in Brooklyn und lebt auch später in New York. Er begann schon früh, gemeinsam mit seinem Bruder, Drehbücher und Sketche für Bühnenshows zu schreiben. Seit seinem ersten Theatererfolg 1961 schrieb er zahlreiche Gesellschaftskomödien, die später in Starbesetzungen verfilmt wurden.
