Provadia Municipality (Bulgarian: Община Провадия) is a municipality in Varna Province, Northeastern Bulgaria. It is named after its administrative centre - the town of Provadia . The municipality embraces a territory of 576.6 km 2 (222.6 sq mi) with a population, as of December 2009, of 23,045 inhabitants.
The Fortress of Ovech is a medieval fortress located on the Plateau above Provadia city. The fortress was built by the Byzantines and was inhabited from the 4th till the 7th century. However, It stopped functioning for almost a century afterwards and re-started again in the 11th century till the 17th century.

The municipality of Provadia is situated in Northeast Bulgaria along a defile which is surrounded with rocks from the east and the west. It has a peripheral position in the Varna district. It borders five settlement systems - Vetrino, Devnya, Avren, Dolni Chiflik and Dalgopol, and in the west - with peripheral settlement systems of the Shoumen district.
