Joachim Ernst, Duke of Anhalt (11 January 1901 – 18 February 1947) was the last ruler of the Duchy of Anhalt . Biography. He was born in Dessau, the son of Duke Eduard of Anhalt (1861–1918) and Princess Louise Charlotte of Saxe-Altenburg (1873–1953), the daughter of Prince Moritz of Saxe-Altenburg .

Sons of John IV. In 1553 inherited Plotzkau from their uncle George III. In 1561 inherited Dessau and Bernburg from their uncle Joachim. In the next year inherited Kothen. 8 de may. de 2018 · He came to the throne in September 1918 when he was 17-years-old. As he was underage, his father’s brother Prince Aribert of Anhalt served as Regent. With the German Empire crumbling at the end of World War I, Aribert abdicated on Joachim Ernst’s behalf on November 12, 1918.

Duke Joachim Ernest was the last Duke of Anhalt between September 13 and November 12, 1918 and until his death the Head of the House of Ascania, who is currently his son, Duke Eduard, Prince of Anhalt. The House of Ascania is a dynasty of German rulers that ruled in the Duchy of Anhalt until 1918.
