Kurt Cobain was accepted by Melvins as a producer to the album after an A&R at Atlantic Records, who also ran Cobain's management company, suggested him. Despite receiving a co-producer credit, the extent of Cobain's involvement in the album is questionable.

Kurt Cobain produced tracks 1, 7, 8, 9, 12 and 13 along with Melvins. He played on "Sky Pup" and the percussion-only "Spread Eagle Beagle". The entire album was recorded live and released as A Live History of Gluttony and Lust in 2006. Cover Versions; "Going Blind" originally by KISS
Kurt Cobain - Guitar, Percussion, Producer, Mixing. Here is some interesting information sent in by Alan: I worked at the recording studio where the Melvins recorded Houdini. I was only there a couple of times a week, but the only person I ever saw play bass was Billy Anderson. I never heard mention of anyone else.
