  5. Austrian-born British pianist Marion Stein was born in Vienna on 18 October 1926. Her father was musician and writer Erwin Stein, who was a pupil and friend of Arnold Schoenberg. She emigrated to the UK just before the onset of World War II and studied at the Royal College of Music, becoming friends with Benjamin Britten and John Amis.
