Sir Horace Darwin, KBE FRS (13 May 1851 – 22 September 1928) was an English engineer specializing in the design and manufacture of precision scientific instruments.
Horace Darwin was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1903. During the first world war, the Company assisted the war effort by undertaking work for the Ministry of Munitions. This included making instruments previously manufactured in Germany and therefore unavailable.
Sir Horace Darwin (1851-1928), knight, civil engineer and founder of the Cambridge Scientific Instrument Company, was born at Downe, Kent, on 13 May 1851, the ninth child of Charles Robert Darwin and his wife, Emma.

SIR HORACE DARWIN, whose death on Sept. 22 is widely regretted, was born in 1851, the fifth son of Charles Darwin and the third of the group of brothers to become a fellow of the Royal Society. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, taking his degree as a Senior Optime in 1874.
Emma Cecilia 'Ida' Darwin, born 1854, married Horace Darwin (1851-1928), fifth son of Charles and Emma Darwin. They had three children: Erasmus (1881-1915) who died at Ypres during the First World War, Ruth Frances [Rees-Thomas] (1883-1973), and Emma Nora [Barlow] (1885-1989).
