  5. Following their arrival in Ireland, a dispute arose with Meiler Fitzhenry, a tenant of William Marshal in Leinster, who was also King John’s Justiciar. Meiler engineered William Marshal’s summons to John’s court, forcing him to leave Leinster vulnerable to a possible incursion by the Justiciar’s forces.

  6. fitz Henry, Meiler (a.1157–1220), justiciar, was son of Henry fitz Henry (son of Henry I, king of England) and Nesta, daughter of Rhys ap Tewdwr, king of Deheubarth, Wales. He was orphaned as a child when his father was killed in an ambush while fighting in Henry II 's (qv) Welsh campaign of 1157.

  7. Biography. Meiler was born about 1185. He is the son of Myler FitzHenry and an unknown niece of Hugh de Lacy . By the niece of Hugh de Lacy, Myler FitzHenry fathered a son, also named Meilyr, who in 1206 was old enough to dispossess William de Braose of Limerick, and whose forays into Tyrconnell had already spread devastation among the Irish.
