Karoline von Schlotheim (6 July 1766 - 7 January 1847) was a German noblewoman who was the third and final mistress of William I, Elector of Hesse from 1788 until 1811. Life. Karoline was the daughter of General Heinrich Christian Wilhelm von Schlotheim and his wife, Friederike Most von Wilhelmsthal (d. 1799).
Karoline Albertine Julie von Schlotheim, ab 1788 Gräfin von Schlotheim, ab 1811 Gräfin von Hessenstein (* 6. Juli 1766 in Hörsten, Seevetal; † 7. Januar 1847 in Kassel) war die vierte und letzte Mätresse des Kurfürsten Wilhelm I. von Hessen-Kassel, mit der er 13 gemeinsame Kinder hatte.

El lugar sirvió al landgrave como residencia para él y su amante Karoline von Schlotheim. En 1821, el landgrave, que habían a sido criado con el Elector Guillermo I en 1803, fue enterrado en una tumba debajo de la capilla del palacio.

Die sog. Franzosenzeit von 1806-1813 verbrachten beide getrennt im Exil: Wilhelm mit seiner Mätresse von Schlotheim in Schleswig und Prag, Karoline bei ihrer jüngeren Tochter Karoline Amalie von Sachsen-Gotha. Nach der Rückkehr bezog die Kurfürstin das Philippsthal´sche Palais in Kassel.
