Wigmund, or Wimund, of Mercia predeased his father, Wiglaf of Mercia (d.839/840). His son and heir, Wystan, or Wistan, of Mercia then inherited the Mercian throne when Wiglaf died ... but declined, and even wanted to make his mother Ælfflæd of Mercia, regent. Instead, she was thwarted by Berhtwulf by 841.

Wimund has previously been shown as father of Eadburh, mother-in-law of King Alfred. There is no clear evidence for this: see the Research Noteson Eadburh's profile.
