The Aviator: Music from the Motion Picture is the soundtrack album to the 2004 film The Aviator starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Cate Blanchett and Alan Alda. The original score and songs were composed and conducted by Howard Shore and performed by Brussels Philharmonic (former Flemish Radio Orchestra). [citation needed]
Equally anticipated by film music enthusiasts, The Aviator was Shore's first major scoring project since his award-winning trilogy of compositions for The Lord of the Rings, an achievement already recognized at the time as being among the greatest three soundtracks of all time.
Based on real events, The Aviator tells the glamorous life story of Howard Hughes (Leonardo DiCaprio), the eccentric aviation pioneer and Hollywood movie mogul who, between the late 1920s and 1940s, designed and test-piloted three new planes and expanded the fortune that had been left to him by his father – the Texan inventor of a drill bit.
