Charles August or Carl August (9 July 1768 – 28 May 1810) was a Danish prince. He is best known for serving as Crown Prince of Sweden briefly in 1810, adopted by Charles XIII, before his sudden death from a stroke.

Prince August, 1831–1873. Nikolaus August was born in August 1831 at Drottningholm Palace, and was the youngest son of Oskar (I) and Josefina of Leuchtenberg. Prince August was Duke of Dalarna. In 1849–53, he spent time studying in Uppsala. In April 1864, he married Teresia of Saxe-Altenburg.
In the summer of 1809, Sweden was in crisis. Finland was lost, the surrounding world hostile and the succession after the childless Charles XIII uncertain. The Diet elected a Danish prince, originally Christian August, who had a reputation as a competent, dutiful soldier.

With the consent of Denmark, the commander in chief of the Norwegian army, Christian August (at the moment waging war against Sweden), was elected crown prince and took the name Charles August. Behind this decision were thoughts of a Scandinavian confederation.
