The film is the second screen adaptation of Dr. Seuss' 1971 children's book of the same name following the 1972 animated television special.
Al enterarse de cómo el ermitaño se entregó a su codicia y devastó la tierra ante las protestas de El Lórax, Ted se inspira para buscar la trúfula perdida y deshacer el desastre. Por supuesto que en el camino se tendrá que enfrentar al codicioso alcalde Thneed-Ville, el señor O’Hare.
