Richard Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville, 1st Duke of Buckingham and Chandos KG, PC was the eldest son of George Nugent-Temple-Grenville, 1st Marquess of Buckingham, son of George Grenville, Prime Minister of Great Britain. His mother was Lady Mary Nugent, daughter of Robert Nugent, 1st Earl Nugent.

Richard Plantagenet Temple Nugent Brydges Chandos Grenville, only child of Richard T. N. B. C. Grenville, first duke of Buckingham, was born at Buckingham House, Pall Mall, London on 11 February 1797, and as Lord Cobham entered Eton in 1808.
