Henry Montagu, 1st Earl of Manchester (c. 1563 – 7 November 1642) was an English judge, politician and peer. He is mainly remembered today as the judge who sentenced Sir Walter Raleigh to death.

Biography. Described by Dudley Carleton* in 1606 as one of the ‘apostles of the Lower House’, 62 Montagu was the younger son of a leading Northamptonshire magnate, and was born at his father’s seat of Boughton house shortly before 1567.
