William Frederick Yeames RA (/ j iː m z /; 18 December 1835 – 3 May 1918) was a British painter best known for his oil-on-canvas "And When Did You Last See Your Father?", which depicts the son of a Royalist being questioned by Parliamentarians during the English Civil War.
And When Did You Last See Your Father? is a 2007 British drama film directed by Anand Tucker. The screenplay by David Nicholls is based on the 1993 memoir of the same title by Blake Morrison.

It shows a Royalist house under occupation by Parliamentarians. The young boy is being interrogated as to the whereabouts of the master of the house.
And When Did You Last See Your Father? was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1878, no. 329. In this work Yeames has again left the Tudors behind to select a subject from the Stuart period at the time of the English Civil War between the Royalist suppporters of King Charles I and the Parliamentarians under Oliver Cromwell and Thomas Fairfax.
