Patrick Street is an Irish folk group founded by Kevin Burke (formerly of The Bothy Band) on fiddle, Andy Irvine (Sweeney's Men, Planxty) on mandolin, bouzouki, harmonica and vocals, Jackie Daly on button accordion, and Arty McGlynn (Van Morrison) on guitar.
Born in London, England and now residing in Co. Roscommon, Ireland, John plays in the Roscommon and Sligo styles of his family roots. He was recently named Traditional Musician of the Year for 2003 by Irish Television TG4. He has released a number of well-regarded albums and also plays with his band At the Racket.

On the Fly is the ninth album (eighth studio) by the Irish folk band Patrick Street, released in 2007 on Loftus Music. [1] The regular band members ( Andy Irvine, Kevin Burke, Jackie Daly, Ged Foley) were joined by new member John Carty (fiddle, flute, banjo), and by guest musician Brendan Hearty (harmonium).

The Irish “supergroup” Patrick Street began with four recognized masters – Kevin Burke (ex-Bothy Band), singer/bouzouki player Andy Irvine (ex-Planxty), Jackie Daly (ex-De Dannan), and multi-instrumentalist Ged Foley (formerly of the Battlefield Band, and now in The House Band)-joining forces for a tour in 1986.
