History. Angel Rot was formed in 1988 Manhattan by bassist Mike Davis, vocalist/guitarist Tom Five and drummer George Berz. Tom Five had been a band member of seminal industrial/noise rock band White Zombie. Scott Sanfratello took over drumming duties from Berz in 1989 and was then replaced by Tony Mann a year later.

In 2000, indie rock music veterans J Mascis (of Dinosaur Jr) and Mike Watt (of the Minutemen and Firehose) teamed up with Ron Asheton and drummer George Berz to perform Stooges covers (and other material) live. Billed as J. Mascis and the Fog, the band performed sporadically before Pop became aware of them in 2003.
George Berz took over on drums, and drummed from 1994-1997. He was on Without A Sound, and Hand It Over. He later drummed for J Mascis + the Fog in 2000, 2001, and 2003. Through the 90s, Mascis sometimes explored quieter and more tranquil shores than Dinosaur Jr. had in the 80s. The band formed part of the 1992 "Rollercoaster" tour.
