Borena of Alania. Queen Borena. Borena ( Georgian: ბორენა) was a sister of the Alan king Durgulel "the Great", and the Queen consort of Georgia, as the second wife of Bagrat IV (r. 1027–1072). [1] [2] The medieval Georgian historical tradition provides little information about Borena.

Maria was born the princess Mart'a, daughter of the Georgian King Bagrat IV (10271072) and his second wife, the Alan Borena. Borena was the sister of Dorgoleli, the ruler of Alania (C. Toumanoff, Les dynasties de la Caucasie chrétienne de l'Antiquité jusqu'au XIXe siècle. Rome 1990, 134-135).
