The band originally met at Bucknell University and was formed in Greenwich Village, New York City, with sisters Cathy (guitar) and Kristen Henderson (guitar/drums), Penelope "Peppy" Kokines as lead vocalist and Suzanne Obolsky on vocals and percussion.
While at Bucknell, she formed an all-female band called Mistress with sister, Cathy, and Penelope "Peppy" Kokines as the lead singer. After graduation the three moved to New York City where they formed Antigone Rising. Henderson married Sarah Kate Ellis on October 22, 2011.
