Karl Ludwig Sand (Wunsiedel, Prusia, 5 de octubre de 1795 - Mannheim, 20 de mayo de 1820), fue un joven estudiante de la Universidad de Jena, miembro de la Burschenschaft, que mató a August von Kotzebue por considerarlo traidor a la patria (véase nacionalismo alemán).
Karl Ludwig Sand (Wunsiedel, Upper Franconia (then in Prussia), 5 October 1795 – Mannheim, 20 May 1820) was a German university student and member of a liberal Burschenschaft (student association). He was executed in 1820 for the murder of the conservative dramatist August von Kotzebue the previous year in Mannheim .

In 1819, the government of the German Confederation took the murder of Kotzebue by Karl Sand as reason to ban fraternities under the Carlsbad Decrees, to keep a watch on universities, and to dismiss professors who encouraged liberal, “revolutionary” activities.
On March 23, 1819, the student Karl Ludwig Sand (1795–1820) murdered the dramatist and conservative politician August von Kotzebue (born 1761), who had made disparaging remarks about national-democratic student fraternities in his weekly, Literarische Wochenblatt.
