Hugo Richard Charteris, 11th Earl of Wemyss and 7th Earl of March DL (25 August 1857 – 12 July 1937), styled Lord Elcho from 1883 to 1914, was a British Conservative politician.
The Hon. Martin Michael Charles Charteris, second son of the aforementioned Captain Hugo Francis Charteris, Lord Elcho, eldest son of the eleventh Earl, was private secretary to Queen Elizabeth II and was created a life peer as Baron Charteris of Amisfield in 1978.

Charteris was born in London, the fourth child of Captain Hon. Guy Lawrence Charteris (1886–1967, the son of Hugo Charteris, 11th Earl of Wemyss, and Mary Constance Wyndham), and his first wife, Frances Lucy Tennant (1887–1925), a granddaughter of Sir Charles Tennant.

HUGO CHARTERIS was born in London in 1922, third grandson of the 11th Earl of Wemyss. He was educated at Eton and Oxford and served in the Scots Guards during World War II, for his part in which he was awarded the Military Cross. In 1948 he married Virginia Forbes Adam.
