Charles Paulet, 1st Duke of Bolton PC JP (c. 1630 [1] – 27 February 1699), was an English nobleman, the son of John Paulet, 5th Marquess of Winchester, and his first wife, Jane Savage. [2] Bolton Hall, North Yorkshire, as rebuilt after a fire in 1902.
29 de abr. de 2022 · PAULET or POWLETT, CHARLES, first Duke of Bolton (1625?–1699), eldest son of John, fifth marquis of Winchester [q. v.], by his first wife, was born about 1625. He was elected for Winchester in the Convention parliament of 1660, and represented Hampshire from 1661 to 1675.
Charles Powlett, the 1st duke ( c. 1625-1699), who became 6th marquess of Winchester on his father's death in 1675, had been member of parliament for Winchester and then for Hampshire from 1660 to 1675.
Marquess of Winchester is a title in the Peerage of England that was created in 1551 for the prominent statesman William Paulet, 1st Earl of Wiltshire. It is the oldest of six surviving English marquessates; therefore its holder is considered the premier marquess of England.

Biography. Lord St. John was descended from a younger son of the Somerset Pouletts. His ancestor acquired Basing by marriage in 1428, but the first of the family to represent the county was Sir William Paulet, who sat in the Reformation Parliament before becoming lord treasurer and Marquess of Winchester.
Charles Paulet, 1st Duke of Bolton, 6th Marquess of Winchester (d. 1699) Married Mary Scrope (d. 1680), illegitimate daughter of Emanuel Scrope, 1st Earl of Sunderland, 11th Baron Scrope of Bolton, who inherited the Bolton estates.
