  2. Sir Alured Clarke GCB (24 November 1744 – 16 September 1832) was a British Army officer. He took charge of all British troops in Georgia in May 1780 and was then deployed to Philadelphia to supervise the evacuation of British prisoners of war at the closing stages of the American Revolutionary War.

  3. Alured Clarke obtained an ensigncy in the 50th Foot in 1759 and six years later became a captain in the 5th Foot. After being made major in the 54th Foot in 1771, he was promoted lieutenant-colonel in 1775.

  6. CLARKE, ALURED. (1744–1832). British officer. Born on 24 November 1744, Alured Clarke became an ensign in the 50th Foot in 1759. After seeing service in Germany, he was promoted to lieutenant on 10 May 1760, and then became captain of the Fifty-second Foot on 30 December 1763.

  7. Alured Clarke's first military service was in Germany under the Marquess of Granby. As a lieutenant-colonel in the Royal Fusiliers he served in the American War of Independence. He was in command at Charleston and Savannah.
