Galarrwuy Yunupingu AM (30 June 1948 – 3 April 2023), also known as James Galarrwuy Yunupingu and Dr Yunupingu, was an Indigenous Australian activist who was a leader in the Aboriginal Australian community.

Albanese said he was the founder of the movement for Aboriginal land rights and a long-time symbol of the uncompromising persistence that was needed to win the cause. In 1978 he was made Australian of the Year for his contribution.

8 de ene. de 2024 · In 2019, Yolngu leader Galarrwuy Yunupingu lodged a native title compensation claim on behalf of his Gumatj clan. The claim seeks compensation from the Commonwealth Government for the acquisition and destruction of Gumatj land on the Gove Peninsula, acquired for bauxite mining.
