Johann Salomo Semler (18 December 1725 – 14 March 1791) was a German church historian, biblical commentator, and critic of ecclesiastical documents and of the history of dogmas. He is sometimes known as "the father of German rationalism ".

Johann Salomo Semler, auch Salomon, (* 18. Dezember 1725 in Saalfeld, Thüringen; † 14. März 1791 in Halle (Saale)) war ein evangelischer Theologe und Mitbegründer der Aufklärungstheologie, insbesondere der historisch-kritischen Bibelwissenschaft.
Johann Salomo Semler, quien por entonces ocupaba una cátedra de teo- logía en la Universidad de Halle, ilustra a la perfección el nuevo clima y el modo en que se proyectaba sobre la comprensión de la Reforma.
