  4. La Tour d'Auvergne. The House of La Tour d'Auvergne ( French: [la tuʁ dovɛʁɲ]) was a noble French dynasty. Its senior branch, extinct in 1501, held two of the last large fiefs acquired by the French crown, the counties of Auvergne and Boulogne, for about half a century.
