Mara Branković. Vâlide Mara Hatun ( Serbia, c. 1418 — Serres, 23 de septiembre de 1487), también conocida como Madre Mara o Amerissa. Mara Branković (Serbian Cyrillic: Мара Бранковић) or Mara Despina Hatun (c. 1420 – 14 September 1487), in Europe also known as Amerissa, Sultana Marija or Sultanina, was the daughter of Serbian monarch Đurađ Branković and Eirene Kantakouzene.

Mara Branković was the daughter of Serbian monarch Đurađ (George) Branković and Irene Kantakouzene. She entered the harem of Sultan Murad II of the Ottoman Empire. Mara was betrothed to Murad II in June 1431.
Mara, also known as Jelena, was the daughter of despot Lazar and granddaughter of despot Đurađ Branković. Her mother was Helene Palaiologos, daughter of Morea’s despot Thomas Palaiologos. She was born around 1447 as the first child from their marriage. She had two younger sisters, Milica and Jerina.
