Nacido entre 1280 y 1292, Miguel era el hijo del déspota Shishman de Vidin y de una noble búlgara cuyo nombre es desconocido, que además era hija del sebastocrátor Pedro y su esposa Ana Teodora Asenina.
Shishman of Vidin, Bulgarian nobleman (boyar), ruled the semi-independent despotate based out of the Danubian fortress in the late 13th and early 14th century (1270s/1280s - before 1308/1313).
