Count Ludwig Franz II of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg-Ludwigsburg (1694–1750) founded a branch which in 1834 became Prussian princes of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg-Ludwigsburg and in 1861 princes of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn. The present head of this branch is Alexander, Prince zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn (born 1943), the 7th prince.
Sayn-Wittgenstein, Heinrich Alexander Ludwig Peter Prinz zu, born 14-08-1916 in Copenhagen, Denmark, was a German of aristocratic descent the second of the three sons of Gustav Alexander Prins zu Sayn-Wittgenstein (1880-1953) and Walburga Baroness von Friesen (1885-1970).

On 26 October 2000, she married Casimir, Prince zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Sayn, twelve years her junior, in London. In 2002, she and Prince Casimir had a son, Prince Alexander Kyril. They divorced in 2005 and she retained her married name.
