The arrondissement of Poitiers is in western Vienne and is bordered to the north and northeast by the arrondissement Châtellerault, to east and south by the arrondissement Montmorillon, and to the west by the Deux-Sèvres department. It has an area of 1,925.7 square kilometres (743.5 square miles).
