Kastellaun, Germany. Kastellaun Castle ruins are on the castle hill above the town of Kastellaun and are connected to the former wall of the town. Constructed in the 13th century, the castle is first mentioned in 1226 as Kestilun, a possession of the Count of Sponheim. In 1301 it was the residence of Simon II, Count of Sponheim-Kreuznach.

We had driven by the Burg Kastellaun several times on our way to other places and finally decided to stop and visit the site. We discovered a museum (at the time there was, among others, a very interestingan exhibit about fashion from celtic to roman times), a restaurant, the opportunity to partake in bow-shooting classes, and a beautiful view over the surrounding landscape.
