The Phoenix Cinema is an independent single-screen community cinema in East Finchley, London, England. It was built in 1910 and opened in 1912 as the East Finchley Picturedrome. It is one of the oldest continuously-running cinemas in the UK and shows mainly art-house films.
At the heart of the village, humbler dwellings multiplied and by the 1850s East End was the most populous part of Finchley, crammed with tenements and terraced houses. Expansion accelerated following the arrival of the railway in 1867 and the sale of more building leases from 1878.
East Finchley is an area in North London, immediately north of Hampstead Heath. Like neighbouring Muswell Hill, it straddles the London Boroughs of Barnet and Haringey, with most of East Finchley falling into the London Borough of Barnet. It has the greenest high road in London.
