Christian married in Wildungen in November 1604 to Countess Elisabeth of Nassau-Siegen (1584–1661) (Dillenburg Castle, 8 November 1584 – Landau, 26 July 1661), the eldest daughter of Count John VII 'the Middle' of Nassau-Siegen and his first wife Countess Magdalene of Waldeck-Wildungen.
Magdalene was born on 23 February 1596 as the fifth and youngest daughter of Count John VII 'the Middle' of Nassau-Siegen and his first wife, Countess Magdalene of Waldeck-Wildungen. From 1622 Magdalene spent most of her time in Herford Abbey, where she held the office of deaconess since 1628.
Finally, both Wilhelmine Christine and Josias descended from Count Wolrad I of Waldeck-Waldeck, Wilhelmine Christine through her grandmother Magdalene of Waldeck-Wildungen. Wilhelmine Christine outlived her husband by almost 31 years; she died in Hildburghausen on 22 January 1700 and was buried in Saalfeld on 27 January.
Margaretha von Waldeck (1533 – 15 March 1554) was the daughter of Philip IV, Count of Waldeck-Wildungen (1493–1574) and his first wife, Margaret Cirksena (1500–1537), daughter of Edzard I, Count of East Frisia. One author theorized in the 1990s that her life influenced the fairy tale of Snow White.
