Howitt's first notable TV role was in the 1984–85 series of Yorkshire Television 's long-running programme for schools How We Used To Live, where he starred alongside Brookside actress Sue Jenkins. He is best known for playing Joey Boswell in the first four series of BBC TV series Bread.

Peter Wilkinson Howitt (born May 31, 1946) is a Canadian economist. He is the Lyn Crost Professor of Social Sciences at Brown University. Howitt is a Fellow of the Econometric Society since 1994 and a Fellow of Royal Society of Canada since 1992.
