According to Acts 4:36, Barnabas was a Cypriot Jew. Named an apostle in Acts 14 :14, [2] he and Paul the Apostle undertook missionary journeys together and defended Gentile converts against the Judaizers. They traveled together making more converts ( c. 46–48 ), and participated in the Council of Jerusalem ( c. 49 ).
Pre-Congregation is my term for the Beatification and/or Canonization of saints prior to the institution of the modern investigations performed by the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. It designates those who were canonized by local bishops, primates, or patriachs, often as a result of popular devotion.
The Process of Beatification and Canonization. The process of documenting the life and virtues of a holy man or woman cannot begin until 5 years after death. This waiting period insures that the person has an enduring reputation for sanctity among the faithful. It can be waived by the Supreme Pontiff, and has been done on two occasions.

The congregation prepares each year everything necessary for the pope to be able to set forth new examples of holiness. After approving results on miracles, martyrdom and heroic virtues of various Servants of God, the Holy Father proceeds to a series of canonizations and beatifications.
