Six Mile Bottom is a hamlet within the parish of Little Wilbraham, near Cambridge in England . Etymology [ edit] The hamlet was named in 1801, deriving its name from the six mile distance to Newmarket and its location in a bottom, an archaic term for a valley. [1] History [ edit]
As part of her inheritance, Lady Delamere received Six Mile Bottom Hall, a large Tudor country house in Six Mile Bottom. On 12 May 1927, she married Captain Alec Cunningham-Reid, a military officer and politician.
On 22 September 1936 an aeroplane made a forced landing on the railway line between Fulbourn and Six Mile Bottom. The Fulbourn signalman was instrumental in saving the life of the pilot.
