United Western Recorders was a two-building recording studio complex in Hollywood that was one of the most successful independent recording studios of the 1960s. The complex merged neighboring studios United Recording Corp. on 6050 Sunset Boulevard and Western Studio on 6000 Sunset Boulevard.

He first purchased United Studios at 6050 Sunset Boulevard, then purchased Western Recorders in 1961. As soon as the doors opened, Western Recorders was producing some of the biggest hits of the pop music era.
A couple of years later, Bill Sr. sold the entirety of the United Western Recorders complex to Allen, at which time Bill Putnam’s United Recording became known as Allen Sides' Ocean Way Studios. It was also during this time Sides began buying almost a thousand rare tube microphones from overseas.

United Western Recorders was sold in 1984, and was renamed to Ocean Way Recording, still operating as two split studios. 14 years later, in 1998, the Western Studio half was divided from Ocean Way Recording. The studio was sold and became known as Cello Studios. The studio ceased operation in 2005.
