Mickey Charles Mantle (October 20, 1931 – August 13, 1995), nicknamed " the Mick " and " the Commerce Comet ", was an American professional baseball player. He played his entire Major League Baseball (MLB) career (1951–1968) with the New York Yankees, primarily as a center fielder.

Upon his return, he was assigned uniform number 7, which he would wear for the next 18 years. In the final 27 games of the season, Mantle hit .284 with six home runs and 20 RBIs. The Yankees clinched the American League pennant on September 28 and faced the crosstown New York Giants in the World Series.
