It is a Royal Peculiar (a church under the direct jurisdiction of the monarch), and the Chapel of the Order of the Garter. St George's Chapel was founded in the 14th century by King Edward III and extensively enlarged in the late 15th century. It is located in the Lower Ward of the castle. [1]

St. George’s Chapel, part of Windsor Castle, in the district of Windsor and Maidenhead, Berkshire, England. This chapel was designed for the Most Noble Order of the Garter and was begun by Edward IV. It is one of the finest examples of the Perpendicular style of Gothic architecture in England.
