De derde week van juli lopen we samen de 4Daagse, de grootste wandelprestatietocht ter wereld! Meer dan 45.000 deelnemers, met meer dan 70 verschillende nationaliteiten, van 11 jaar tot 90+, komen elk jaar naar Nijmegen om vier dagen 30, 40 of 50 kilometer te wandelen in de Waalstad en haar prachtige, bosrijke omgeving.
The Vierdaagse ( pronounced [ˌviːrˈdaːxsə], lit. 'four days event') is an annual walk that has taken place since 1909. Based at Nijmegen since 1925, it now takes place in the third week of July. In 2016 it celebrated the 100th edition (reflecting that the marches were curtailed during the two world wars).
De routes van de 4Daagse zijn nooit exact 30, 40 of 50km. Bij het bepalen van de routes spelen diverse factoren een rol. Denk hierbij aan de begaanbaarheid van wegen, de bereikbaarheid voor veiligheidsdiensten, maar ook of het een prettige route is met voldoende afwisseling tussen natuur en bewoond gebied et cetera.
De Nijmeegse Vierdaagse, sinds 2021, met weinig navolging, geschreven als 4Daagse en officieel genaamd de Internationale Vierdaagse Afstandsmarsen Nijmegen, is een vierdaags wandelevenement dat sinds 1909 ieder jaar wordt gehouden en start op de derde dinsdag van juli.
