The Baker rifle (officially known as the Pattern 1800 Infantry Rifle) was a flintlock rifle used by the rifle regiments of the British Army during the Napoleonic Wars. It was the first British-made rifle that the British armed forces issued as a standard weapon for all line companies in a regiment.
The British used rifles, or rifle carbines, for the first time when 50 of the weapons accompanied a military force assigned to relieve Louisbourg in North America. Rifles were seen largely as a German hunting weapon, not as a tool of war, and they were slow to emerge as a military weapon.

The Baker Rifle, which was a muzzle-loading flintlock, was the first British rifle to be used. Issued to the Rifle Brigade in 1800 it remained in use until 1838. There is mention of it being used by troops engaged in the so-called 'Kaffir' Wars of 1851, and records of its distribution as late as 1841.
