In July 1998 Dan Jurgens and Romita Jr. relaunched the Thor series. A January 1999 reboot of Peter Parker: Spider-Man was handled by Howard Mackie and Romita Jr. In 2001, Romita returned to Spider-Man for a collaboration with writer J. Michael Straczynski beginning with The Amazing Spider-Man vol. 2 #30 (June 2001).

The comic series were created by Mark Millar and John Romita Jr. Hit-Girl is a young vigilante (later a Kingsman agent) going around the world stopping crime in violent ways, while Kick-Ass has had two people take the mantle, a hero ( Dave Lizewski) and a villain ( Patience Lee ).

In January 2022, it was announced that writer Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr. would be working on a relaunched The Amazing Spider-Man, bringing the number of volumes for the title to its sixth, with the series beginning in April 2022 as a semi-monthly publication.
