Child's Play is an American horror film. The film is the first in the Child's Play film series. It was released in the United States on November 9, 1988. Unlike the following films, Child's Play resembles a whodunnit film in contrast to the later sequels focus on the title character.

The story begins on November 9, 1988 in Chicago, Illinois. While being chased by Detective Mike Norris, Charles Lee Ray ("Chucky"), the notorious "Lakeshore Strangler", takes cover in a toy store, but is shot and mortally wounded by Norris. Before dying, Charles swears revenge against Norris and finds boxes of "Good Guy" dolls, crashing into them.
Charles Lee Ray is a serial killer chased by detective Mike Norris. Eddie Caputo is waiting for Charles in the getaway van. Mike shoots Charles in the back.
In 1988 Chicago, detective Mike Norris chases fugitive serial killer Charles Lee Ray through the streets of Chicago and into a toy store, while Mike's colleague chases Ray's accomplice, Eddie Caputo. Shot by Norris and dying, Ray performs a voodoo chant to transfer his soul into a nearby Good Guy -brand talking doll .
