It is associated with extreme stunts, recklessness, and excitement, which are present in the TV show that gave rise to the franchise of the same name. The emblem is often used on posters, DVD covers, clothing, and other brand merchandise.

The Skull and Crutches Logo, also known as the Jackass logo or skull and crossbones logo, is the logo for the Jackass franchise designed by Andy Jenkins. The logo itself features a damaged human skull above simplistic criss-crossed crutches. It is usually presented in white, on a black background. It is sometimes accompanied by the Jackass wordmark...
Jackass director Jeff Tremaine had graphic designer and friend Andy Jenkins compose the logo; the two knew each other from the BMX and skateboarding scene of 1980s California. Conversely, Jenkins would later go on to create the passport stamp graphics used in the opening credits of Jackass 3.5.
The logo is a reference to the skull and crossbones symbol which historically symbolises death. With the black and white colour scheme, it is also an obvious nod towards the Jolly Roger Pirate flag, aligning with the jovial yet rebellious nature of Jackass. The damaged skull and crutches reference dangerous and often life-threatening behaviour of the crew. The criss-crossed crutches imagery may also derive from Johnny Knoxville crossing his crutches towards the camera in an early episode of Jackass, but since it is unknown when exactly the logo was created, it is unknown if Knoxville was referencing the logo or vice-versa. It is quite likely that the logo was drawn after this instance, as Knoxville was on crutches for the majority of Jackass Season 1, which may have been an inspiration.
The original Jackass logo used in the TV series was simply the Jackass wordmark in front of a waving United States flag. A skull and crossbones watermark (not to be confused with the skull & crutches) was shown as a warning symbol in the bottom right corner of the TV show when dangerous activities were being shown.
Later, a short animation of the Skull & Crutches would directly precede the films following the Paramount, MTV, and Dickhouse logos, and Warning Screen. In this sense, the Skull & Crutches is more of a logo for the Jackass films specifically.
Many variants of the logo have been created, both fanmade and official, having the skull wear costumes such as a sailor hat, 3D glasses for Jackass 3D, a Bad Grandpa variant, for and a Ryan Dunn variant with red hair and beard which was in talks to be the logo for the fourth film at a time when it was rumoured to be entitled "Jackass 4: We're Not Dunn Yet." The motif is also often paired with the text "If You're Gonna Be Dumb, You Gotta Be Tough," in reference to the Roger Alan Wade song of the same name.
Oddly, the logo has come to take on an entirely different meaning for the Mexican drug cartel. In 2009, three suspected assassins in Tijuana were detained after authorities noticed bullet holes along the side of their vehicle. Inside were 15 black uniforms adorned with the skull & crutches logo. In 2012, the San Diego Reader reported that the emblem was favoured by notorious drug dealer Raydel “El Muletas” Lopez Uriarte to identity his drug shipments and employees.
Cast members Wee Man, Zach Holmes, and Rachel Wolfson have the Skull & Crutches symbol tattooed, as does Machine Gun Kelly, who appeared in Jackass Forever. Wee Man, Wolfson, and Kelly have their tattoos on their wrists, while Holmes' is on his stomach.
The motif is commonly used in Jackass merchandise, as well as garments and set pieces used by the cast such as Johnny Knoxville's pink cardigan in Jackass 3D's Roller Buffalo, or Wee Man's Tank in The Vomitron from Jackass Forever.
