Jaypaw discovers he and his littermates are destined to become powerful cats after walking in Firestar's dreams. As a medicine cat apprentice, he is a natural healer with powerful visions, but is often impatient with his patients and argues with Leafpool frequently.
Jay's Wing is the bait, acting as an injured cat and going out, clear, easy prey for the hawk to eat. As the hawk rides down, the cats jump from the rocks they were hiding behind and attack. Furled Bracken tells the cats that the neck and the talons are the places to target.
During the battle, Jaypaw tells Leafpool that he's going to get the injured cats back to the camp, and she reluctantly allows him to go into the forest. He helps the injured cats and warns Lionpaw about RiverClan warriors near him, ready to attack.

I find Jaypaw to be incredibly difficult, he is so bitter and unlikeable. He's so judgemental of everyone else, and assumes everyone's motives are to make him look bad or treat him like a kit. He is deliberately cruel to cats who are genuinely being kind to him, and his hypocrisy is just frustrating.
